Street Talk understands Julian Sawyer, who co-founded UK neobank Starling and was its chief operating officer until last year, has joined Volt as an adviser.
It is hoped he can leverage his experience from the digital banking sector in Europe and UK, which is a few years ahead of Australia. Starling for example holds more than £1 billion of deposits in about a million personal and business accounts.
“Sawyer’s global experience and detailed knowledge of processes and systems in digital banking will provide Volt with invaluable insights on our own journey to 1 million+ customers," Volt CEO Steve Weston told this column.
Sawyer is also the European managing director of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.
Volt was the first neobank in Australia to receive an unrestricted ADI licence in January last year . Get a first look at tomorrow's headlines Sign up to the Street Talk First Look newsletter ...
